The trail is a new purpose built cross country track that will entertain riders of all skill levels. The terrain ranges from flat grassland to rocky outcrops and tight animal tracks. It will test the best of riders in both climbing and descending at speed, yet beginners will still find the track fun and accessible. Creek crossings, log hops and wooden bridges are scattered over the 5km and make the single track flow nicely and provide some points of interest. While the majority of the trail is skinny single track, there is a stretch of fireroad to give passing opportunity.

DH Specific Information
The Track

Our downhill course here in Rockhampton is just under 1km long and starts at 222m above sea level in elevation and drops to 54m at the finish line (a total of 168 meters drop). Goldie as it is known has been a local favorite for the 5 - 6 years of its existence and has easily hosted races of up to 85 riders. The course itself is one of which is fast and flowing, yet is also challenging and technical. From the beginning riders will need to be on their game, as the start of the track drops into a fast rocky decent with berms, small drops and natural fauna to navigate through, before opening out into a high speed pedal section. From there we hit the first major obstacle, the step down. Which brings us into a technical section of berms, drops, rocks, roots, what we call a log garden and the locally famous wooden bridge. After dealing with the brake bumps leading up to them, we come to the first and larger of the doubles. A couple more obstacles and corners later we come to the second, smaller set of doubles. All of the major obstacles on the course obviously include well marked out b-lines and in some cases “c-lines”. The track now heads towards the newly crafted bottom section. Lots of thought has been put into making this part of the track wider with more flowing line choices, berms, off camber sections and rock gardens to negotiate. Coming over a little drop out of the trees into the open, we now come to the last double which has a nice landing pad making it almost impossible to crash on. We come to a large open “drift” corner that takes us around to, and over the finish line.
So far the track record with the new section stands at 2mins 7seconds and with the average time of about 2mins 40seconds. Although we have plans underway to not only make the track longer, but to improve the quality and increase the challenge for riders whilst keeping it accessible for newer riders. With our dedicated team on the job the Goldie track will be in the best possible condition come race day. Our goal is to make the track fun and accessible to all rider levels. We also wish to challenge more experienced riders, making it difficult to sting together a perfect run every time.

What Hydo from Mtba said about the Rockhampton DH Track :
I drove the 7 hours with 2 others mid last year to the club race prior to the video being made. I will admit it is one of the better DH tracks I have ridden as it is quite tight and technical. The track is very rough and rocky (excuse the pun) which makes it difficult (almost impossible) to stick a clean run together. The track itself also has some good jumps in it. Track length is quite short (2min - Elite) but full on from start gate to finish line.

Camping Information
Camping is available at the XC track only for Friday and Saturday nights. Downhill riders are welcome to camp here also, however- this would mean a 25 minute or so drive to the DH track. Facilities are fairly basic with- likely cold showers, tank drinking water, camp fires and septic toilets. It is in a nice shady spot though, and if you're not roughing it- whats the point?

Camping Registration
You may register for camping at any time before Friday the 3rd of July. The park is open for campers from 1pm Friday.
